quick understanding of what happened...

​We went from CMS 6.9 R13 and ran a new environment to 7.1SP1 and all machines got converted and worked fine.
​We then upgraded to CMS 7.5 and upgraded agents. life was peachy.
​We then went to CMS 7.6HF7 and started noticing custom inventories dissappearing. I placed a ticket with Symantec and they assisted me. They told me that in CMS 7.5, Symantec made a change where all custom inventories are purged NIGHTLY. We made the scheduled task set to 2035 so it never happens. We have a custom way to archive items out.


​What I am asking is the following:

​1. any link or info anywhere to show that 7.5 had this change made? I didnt see it in the release notes.
​2. what is the max size SQL DB would you say is a concern? ours is currently 12gb. I am pushing for us to stop archiving out and deleting... is there a symantec CMS console impact at 12gb? or what number would?

Custom inventories are purged nightly? Uhm.

Take a look at Settings \ Notification  Server \ Resource and Data Class Settings \ Resource History to verify if purging is on and what the retention is. Look in the field under Custom.

A 12 GB database should not be an issue. Ensure there is proper database maintenance and sql server sizing is in place. Our multi SMP environments have MUCH bigger databases.

just looked and under custom, our data class does not have a checkbox in the box. I am guessing checking it off will be to keep that data?

My understanding is if you are looking to not purge information, yes those boxes should be unchecked.

interesting... that check is not in the box and data was getting purged nightly..due to some other internal reasons, we maybe modifying our practices and not caring about saving some of this information and on future upgrades, when the schedule gets tripped, we wont bother worrying about it.

fyi here is the item that got changed via back end sql
