Deployment Solution

Hi,

I'm new to Altiris and was hoping for a couple of pointers.

Ive just plugged a machine into our domain ready to take an image from. I have booted into Windows PE and come out which has then displayed the machine in the DS after a reboot, but it is now just showing as 'switched off' in the  console and the pc hasnt got the agent installed on it.

any help in showing me how to get the machine to have the agent onto it and showing as 'on' in the console would be greatly appreciated.

For the most part, the installation happens in the target operating system, not in WinPE.  So the real question I have is what is the goal here?  Are you looking to install the AClient or DAgent (what is required to report into the DS console)?

If so, you can push it from the console by using the "Remote Install" menu option.  Or you can install it via login scripts or manually by running the setup (located in \\servername\express\agents\aclient folder).

Just a note though, (a personal recommendation and not the official Symantec way), if you are running this on any windows operating system prior to Vista or 2008, use the AClient, it will save you a ton of headaches.  If you are running Vista or 2008, then you have no choice but to use the DAgent.

The goal that i am aiming for is to have the agent (AClient) installed onto the machine to be able to see it as an active computer in the DS.

I have found the client as an .exe in the path that you supplied, am i right in thinking that i can copy that onto the local machine and run it from there?

Sorry for the basic questions, these are the bits i didnt take proper notes on!!!!

I wrote this a long time ago now for DS6.8SP2.. Its chapter 3 of my training notes..

It has a section in on creating a batch file to install the DS agent. Might help..

Many thanks for all your help and quick responses. With your help I have now sucsessfully installed the agent locally onto the machine, taken an image of it and deployed that image to a bank of 50 other machines.

That agent install on that first machine got me stuck though!
