I have one workstion that I try to install Altiris agent 7.0 or 7.1, when done with installation, the screen showing that Altiris agent provider could not start service, I have never see this kind of message before, I deleted altiris from the registry key  (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\altiris) and also deleted altiris folder from the local drive (C:\Program Files\Altiris), reboot the workstation and reinstall again and again. still give me this error "Altiris agent provider could not start service), I check the services, but the symantec management agent was not there. therefore I can not start the services

What should I do? need help please

1. Uninstall the Altiris Agent. You can use the following command from the RUN prompt (see article 1995 "Instructions for the complete manual uninstall of the Altiris agent" for more details):
   
   "C:\Program Files\Altiris\ALTIRIS AGENT\AeXAgentUtil.exe" /clean



2. Modify the following registry value:
   
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CommonFilesDir
   
   from:
   
   C:\Program Files\Common Files
   
   to the default:
   
   C:\Program Files\Common Files
   • Reinstall the Altiris Agent

I have following the instruction still not work.

Modify the following registry value:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\CommonFilesDir

from:

C:\Program Files\Common Files

to the default:

C:\Program Files\Common Files

why are you doing the same thing from and to?

I deleted entire altiris registry key  from HKEY_Local_machine > software >altiris

Hkey_Local_machine> classes> all sub items beginning with Altiris

hkey_local_machine> software> Classes> APPID > {5E038245-CF81-44BE-8018-9A2981B9DC9B}

when I doble click "AexAgentActive.exe" then it gave me error like this....

AexClientActive, Please ensure the altiris service is running before attempting to active the UI

Check the agent installation log and make sure the account you specify for installation really has Admin rights.No virusscanner or GPOs stopping the creation of services?
