  • 1.  Altiris DS - Setup running in GUI mode

    Hi,

     

    I have a scripted OS install working perfectly OK for an HP 6450b laptop. When I use the same scripted OS install on a Dell Latitude E5410, the script OS install is stuck at  "Setup running in GUI mode". for the 1st script OS job. It then just sits there and does not complete the other jobs. It seems that the Altiris DAgent is not reporting back to the DS console. The DAgent is installed on the laptop and in the status shows "Client record updated". The Broadcom netxtreme network drivers are also installed form the driver repository. I am not sure why it is not reporting back to the console. Please advise.

    If the DAgent is visible in the Notification Area of the E5410 and the icon is blue the most likely explanation is that it's somehow created a separate record in the DS or has connected to a different DS, a test one possibly. Can you see the DS name in the DAgent "View Status" view?

    I can see the DS name in the View status. It is pointing to the right DS. The machine does show up in the DS console and I can manually push jobs to it. The only issue is that while running Scripted install, it seems that the client has not reported to the DS and the scripted OS is stuck at "Setup running in GUI mode".

    How is your DAgent installed during the scripted install? If you use the built in scripted install Task it uses setupcomplete.cmd and one of the switches used to install the DAgent is -scriptedinstall.

    The DAgent is installed by adding command to the cmdlines.txt file. I have the following command:

     

    C:\DAgent\DAgent.msi /quiet server_tcp_addr=AltirisServer server_tcp_port=402  scripted_install=1  LAUNCHUI=FALSE

     

    The agent installs fine and I can manage the computer in the Altiris DS. The only issue seems to be that it somehow does not report in the scripted install. Could it be a network driver issue ?  Please advise.

    Is there a log file for the DAgent?

    No, I do not have a log file for the DAgent. Any other suggestions ?

    Hi - As I suspected, the issue was with the Network driver. The driver on the Dell website did not work for me. I downloaded a newer version of network driver from the broadcom site and used those drivers in the DriversDB repository. This time it completed the Setup running in GUI mode and then jumped to the 2nd job and things seem to be working great now ! Thanks for your help !
