  • 1.  Altiris - Targetted Agent Settings (New configurations and Basic inventory )

The below scenario is executed for Automation specific requirements involving Notification Server Console for SMP related activities:

From the NS Console, I am updating the default values for  Targetted Altiris Agent settings for 1) Download new configuration and 2) Upload basic inventory from 1 hour and 1 day resp. to 1 minutes each. A new policy is created for this purpose to apply the settings on the required agents and this wil reduce the communication time interval between the Altiris Agents and the Server. The settings are updated and instantly reflected on the altiris agent settings tab.

Manually, it is possible to verify the modified settings by viewing the settings tab on the Altiris Agent (by clicking on the altiris agent sys tray icon on the agent machine).
But the concern here is to verify that the settings are applied successfully using the automation scripts which can interact with either the database or the NS Console itself, it cannot be verified from the Altiris Agent like in manual scenario.

Is there any page on the NS console where the new settings are reflected/displayed ? Or is there any CMDB database table in which the values are updated with the new policy name?

Let me know if any clarification is required.

Woot - thats really basic functionality.

It's like checking if the system is working at all.

All you can do is goto the resource manager and see the "Last Configuration Request:" in the "Altiris Agent Details" (Summary -> Resource Summary) and check if its after the agent got target for the configuration policy.

If this basic configuration is not working, the agent probably wont be able to tell your server/database.

@Update: Database Table Name: Evt_NS_Client_Config_Request btw (you could evaluate an interval out of this maybe?)

If you are trying to fetch a repot then you should follow below link.......

Report >Notification Server Management >Agent>Agent Requests

or just for information then there is one more tool Remote Altiris Agent Diagnostics from where you can see this.

As per the best practices you should never make the communication time to 1 minutes as if you have 1000 client it will be checking the every 1 minutes that will increases the load on the NS server .if it is testing for 1 or 2 client then it is ok....

SO I the above will be helpful information......

To have inventory sent every minute will likely crash the NS, as will the 1 minute config requests.  Your IIS logs will go insane as well and you may crash IIS.  Granted, if you only have 5 machines you're managing, it may work, but 1 minute each is really really bad.

    REALLY bad.

Just thought I'd mention that.  We put them at those times for a reason.

That said, where to find the reflection of this change (or perhaps changing back?) - the real question is WHY do you want to know where?  Do you need a report?  Need to see if it's working?  What are you trying to accomlish?
