I have Symantec Endpoint on Windows XP and when I click the icon it tells me "Antivirus Protection is on" but Im getting a Windows Security Alert telling me it's off.

How do I make sure it's on and hasn't expired?

    thanks

    Hi,

That is a well known Windows bug of the Security Center repository not resetting properly.

To solve this problem do the following:

    1. Temporarily disable the WMI service (Windows Management Instrumentation) in: Start ->Run -> type: services.msc and in there find and stop WMI
    2. Next delete the C:\windows\system32\wbem\repository folder, wait for it to recreate (it can take a bit of time.)
    3. Restart the WMI service & restart the computer

    Hello,

    Some addition to above,

Make sure your XP is updated with Latest SP and Security Patches....

SEP  is running and it is not off.It  is  casued by a Microsoft API.

Seems like MS expired the API

Seems like MS expired the API a little earlier than they promised - "As a result, the grace period will begin expiring in September 2009, 18 months after Windows Vista SP1 was released on the Microsoft Download Center in March 2008."

Not quite September yet!  I first noticed this on an early build of Windows 7 and our SEP client.

We plan on fixing it in our MR5 client, which will RTM in September (I believe its actually fixed in the code now, I just need to get a later build to test)
