  • 1.  Any advice on upgrading Java on SEP 11 servers?

    Posted Feb 23, 2011 03:05 PM

I've had problems before when I upgraded Java on client workstation, and then trying to use SEP - for example this thread:

    http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/sep-java-console-vs-java-16019

My problems were slightly more scary though, because I found that back when I was using SEP 11 R3 or so if I upgraded my java on my client, I could no longer make packages.

The only way I could make a package was to use the console on the actual front end web server where Java was still at an older version.

Something like the workaround the article suggested also worked.

    ----

It turns out that obviously, having an older version of Java on production machines is not best practice.

Is there anyone out there using SEP 11 RU5 or SEP 11 RU6 who can say that they're having no problems and running the last Java?

Making packages etc?  I use the Network Threat Protection module but not the AV part.

(we use another vendor for the AV)

I've upgraded things to 11 RU6, I think I'm basically caught up, and I haven't worried about Java on the servers in a while, but if you have any experiences that would be interesting.

Or if you know of unusual options available to me, like to partly remove java, but still have it available just to SEP, whatever comes to your mind could be interesting.

Well at that point of time there were issue with some Java update ..Now upgrading your Java should be just fine. However during upgrade make sure you are not logged in to the SEPM console.

    Hello,

We haven't seen any issues related to the Java or its version lately.

I would suggest you to go ahead and upgrade the java as there no issues realted to it seen with Making packages etc? you can use the Network Threat Protection module along with AV part.

Incase if you are carrying older version back from RU5, then there are 2 upgrades in terms of Symantec Endpoint.

    a) Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 RU6a

    b) Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.6100 (RU6 MP2)

    Cheers!!!!
