Are you using any liveupdate server ? Or only using SEPM which will download updates directly from Internet.?

Actually this is a cosmetic issue. If  SEP clients runnLive Update directly will receive content showing the current date (i.e. January 10th, 2010).  Clients receiving their definitions from a SEPM will continue to show the backdated date 12/31/09 until patches for the SEPM are released and applied.  , and will only increase the revision number of the definition.

Latest defintion is December 31, 2009 was “12/31/2009 rev. 121” version.  The next certified definitions to be published will have a revision number greater than 121
    .
For further information please refer to the KB, which will be kept up to date with the latest information:

Symantec intends to release the solution for this issue via LiveUpdate .  .

I mostly using SEPM that downloads the updates from Symantec distributes this to my GUPS and then to its clients.
But for laptops im using liveupdate.

Let me ask my question different: will i need to do anything to fix this issue or is Symantec working on this an will this be solved automatically.?

    Thx,
    LEVD

It will be solved automatically..Definitions will be released SEPM will download it ..fix itself ..then send the corret dates to the clients.
    No manual intervention required.

Patch for RU5 SEPM is posted on LiveUpdate Servers

Symantec Endpoint Protection Engineering has confirmed that the patch that enables MR5 SEPM to download content dated 2010 has successfully posted to our LiveUpdate servers.  Please note: it will take a total of three LiveUpdate cycles to prepare the SEPM, download the patch, and begin using and distributing 2010 definitions.   If you have manually configured their SEPM not to download the patch via LU can apply the patch manually using a standalone tool.  For more information about the issue and the patch, please see the following KB document:

All of my clients have correct definition dates - the problem is my server is still stuck on 12-31-09.  How can that be?  And will that be addressed automatically or is there something I need to do?

If SEPM server is 11.0.3001.xxx or 11.0.5002.xxx then it is a problem and needs to be fixed.
If it is any other version then it will be fixed in few days as current only those two versions have been fixed rest are yet to be fixed.

After MR4MP2 we will focus on MR4, MR4MP1/1a. The mostly likely window for delivery is this weekend.

The patch for MR4MP2 has been posted. When LiveUpdate runs your SEPM will automatically be patched.
