  • 1.  Application Tracking "No Tracking Data" -What does this specifically mean?

I'm a bit confused by the Application Tracking doughnut. Take the following doughnut.

According to this, I have 75 instances where the software is unused, and 85 instances where it is used.

So that I take as being,

    • 75 computers where the software is installed, but hasn't been used within the 90 days (default period)
    • 85 computers where the software is installed, and has been used within the last 90 days (default period)
    • 480 machines where we just don't know

Now, what I don't understand is why do I here have so many machines where we just don't know? Further, when I look at the machines that have "No Tracking Data" I can see from the Add/Remove program inventory that the software IS INSTALLED. The agent health is all in the green too.

Does anyone out there know how to get some meaning out of the "No Tracking Data". As it stands, I'm just not sure where we stand. This SMP is at version 8.0HF5.

    Hi Ian,

Maybe this is related to the following KB Article: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH237278

Good hunting! The KB is scant on detail of what it means by "Inconsistencies".... will ask for more details from the ETrack. Will feedback my findings.

How many different Software Releases do you have included in that doughnut? If you have 160 of v1.1 and 480 of v1.2 but only 1.1 has a tracking .exe associated with it that could explain it.

It's just one software release Andy. The odd thing we are seeing is that if we attend someone's machine who is in the "No Tracking Data" field and get them so fire up the app in question, they then later move out of "No Tracking Data" to "Used". And *then* they move back to no tracking data the next day!

If I can figure out what the "No Tracking Data" means, and the underlying SQL Query associated with it, I can then tread through the tables to figure out why so many of the machines in this instance are defaulting to this status.

So for you is the fun of SQL profiler. It might be made slightly easier as I think the relevant SQL processes are all Stored Procedures starting spAC_Get...

I have had this same issue with the app tracking, please keep updated if you figure this out.

    Good morning,

we have the same issue here with the app metering.

Are there any news regarding this?

    Thanks.

    Best regards,

    Chris

Looks like a new KB article was authored to address some of these questions - https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH247783.html

Not sure about the second reason listed in the doucment, but I always explain it as there is no tracking data in the databse, meaning the computer has never reported metering data for the software - or any data was there has been purged.
