  • 1.  Applying Maintenance Packs (patches)

    Posted Sep 24, 2015 10:38 AM

    Hi,

I have found information on how to upgrade DLP versions (i.e. v12 to v14) but how do I apply a maintenance pack (patch) to an existing version of DLP? Currently I am on DLP version 12.5.

    Thanks,

    Alison.

DLP only supports one major release upgrades. For your 12.5 system that would mean you could directly upgrade - for DLP Enforce + Detection Server from --> 12.5 -> 14.0

    Now for Oracle:

    • DLP v12.5 Supports:
      WinServer2008 R2 or R2 SP1 Standard or Enterprise (64-bit) (Oracle 11.2.0.3)
WindServer 2012 Standard, Enterprise, or Data Center (64-bit) (Oracle 11.2.0.4)

    • DLP v14 Supports Oracle 11.2.0.4 or 12c Enterprise

If you do not have 11.2.0.4 or a 12c - you need to patch Oracle as well here.

    So to summarize:

DLP - Go directly to 14.0 for Enforce & Detection servers. Gradually upgrade your clients. Clients are ONE VERSION backwards compatible.

For Enforce upgrade I prefer the manual upgrade which is quite solid with chances of failure, you simply run the upgrade binary after unzipping:
    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/upgrade-dlp-enforce-manually

For Detection server, normally the push upgrade from enforce fails. I would keep a winrar or 7zip handy here as well and follow the same article above. This time unzip the windowsdetectionupgradepackage.jar in the \SymantecDLP\Protect\updates directory and follow instructions on Page # 29 on the upgrade guide below:

    http://clientui-kb.symantec.com/resources/sites/BUSINESS/content/live/TECHNICAL_SOLUTION/222000/TECH222514/en_US/Symantec_DLP_12.0_Upgrade_Guide_Win.pdf

I merely tried to outline the process. Do cover the pre-requisites like DB / file / policy backup etc. before proceeding :-)

    Hope this helps!!!
