APSB15-10 - AdbeRdrUpd11011.msp - Anyone else having trouble?

I can't get the latest reader update to install on any of our clients.  The Adobe Pro part of APSB15-10 installs ok, but even ran manually on the downloaded file from Symantec (or even downloading the .msp manually from Adobe), the installer fails with attached message.

I re-read the release notes and it should only require v11 (we're running v11.0.10).

Anyone have any ideas or seeing the same thing?  Very strange...  I can't help but wonder if the timing of the release of the DC product line is playing into it.  Will have to try to reach out to Adobe forums when I get a chance.

We are currently at Reader 11.0.10 which were all upgraded through Patch Management from 11.0.09 and .08. My agent has an error 1603. Running it manually gives me the attached error (Error 1328 - contact patch vendor). Updating it through Adobe works fine. I reverted my snapshot for more testing on this VM.

Take a look at: Acrobat Help / Known issues | Acrobat X, Reader X

Under the section “Known issues on Windows” > Installation /Licensing > Bullet point #6

    • After Acrobat 10.0.1 is installed using an Admin Install Point (AIP), the 10.1 patch doesn't install over the 10.0.1 installation. The following message appears. "The upgrade cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade." TechNote cpsid_88814 [2818745]

Appears to be a problem with installation and licensing that needs to be reviewed with Adobe.

    Hope this helps,

    Joshua

We are having issues with this patch as well.  Our problem is a little different though as it's just not applying patch to the PCs.  If I look at the STPatchAssessment.log it shows this:

    2015-07-14T16:41:41.1720519Z 1534 V PatchTest.cpp:610 Testing 'APSB15-10'.

When looking at the Software Updates tab though it does not list APSB15-10 as needing to be installed.  This is happening on all of our clients.  We have tried to recreate the package for APSB15-10 but that has not helped.  Any ideas?

I just am moving ahead with rolling out DC in palce of Adobe 11.  I realize that's not probably useful to everyone...

You could try and deploy APSB15-15 instead, this is Adobe Reader 11.0.15

I also have faced similar issue with APSB15-15.

    1. Download failed for 'ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/AcrobatDC/1500820082/AcroRdrDCUpd1500820082_MUI.msp'
The data connection was made from an address that is different than the address to which the FTP connection was made.

    2. Download failed for 'ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/AcrobatDC/1500820082/AcroRdrDCUpd1500820082.msp'
The data connection was made from an address that is different than the address to which the FTP connection was made.

    Kind Regards,

    Prosen.

All I had the same issue and thankfully stumbled across this post which provides the answer.

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/patch-doesnt-support-adobe-acrobat-readerpro-dc

In short remove 'Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 15' and 'Adobe Acrobat Reader DC  MUI 15' from your vendor and software imports as it's currently not supported.

    Regards

    Steve

that's my thread too.  I hope Shavlik/Symantec support DC since it is the default Adobe Reader download now.  Seems like a big security hole to not offer it as part of a patching solution.

I don't believe that the Adobe DC support is directly associated to this issue as I have downloaded APSB15-10 (with 6 individual updates) & APSB15-15 (with 8 individual updates) in both PM 7.1 SP2 MP1 & PM 7.5 SP1 test labs.

I have both 'Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 15' & 'Adobe Acrobat Reader DC MUI 15' enabled in the Vendors and Software list on the PMImport page and they download without fail. However, it could be that file type that is being restricted by the environment, for when the DC vendor list items are deselected and a PMImport runs; the download is able to complete for customers seeing this issue.

It appears there may be changes / restrictions in the environment that are preventing the new DC updates from downloading, for when I click the URL link you provided in the error: I get prompted to pick the dir to download AcroRdrDCUpd1500820082_MUI.msp. Are you able to get that from the SMP in a Browser logged in with App ID?

You may also run WireShark or other network sniffing tool and see if that shows where the break takes place in the download.

My proxy / firewall combination will not allow me to get to the Adobe FTP site from my server.

Unchecking the 2 DC patches allowed me to enable the patch.

    Thank You for the suggestion.

Gregg - I ran into something similar with our web filter blocking the DC downloads.  I was able to whitelist our CMS server to download the patches (could have probably done the destination instead).

    Just a thought.

Sorry for delayed response - I just got back from vacation.

We have a proxy that has been configured to work with Symantec - I should not have to request the Networking Team open it to other 3rd parties.

I do not have the time this month or next to review where our NS gets the downloads from and why it works vs. this FTP Adobe website. I do hope that this is resolved before I start investigating.

My fear is that Symantec is going to start using pointers and letting our severs go out and get the patches from 3rd parties vs. SolutionSam (or wherever the NS downloads from). Maybe this is how it currently works and Adobe decided to change to a new location on their side - my workaround is allowing me to work for now, and I can live with it.

It has been downloading direct from the vendor in question for as long as I have been working with the product (3 years).

The PMImport comes from Symantec via the solutionsam.com URL, it is just a CAB file that lists out all the patches, their metadata, and where to download from the vendor. Once the PMImport is downloaded, and you go to download the patches, it reaches out to the relevant URL's provided by Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle etc.

If the proxy or firewall your NS is behind is not allowing FTP traffic, do not expect this issue to be resolved automatically. I'm not sure why Adobe put this particular patch on a FTP site when the rest of their patches are on HTTP, but I doubt it will change.

Is there an alternative to the FTP download or how can I NOT download DC at patches at all?

I am still stuck just because I can't get through FTP port and I can't figure out how to exclude them. DC are not selected but Altiris still insist on downloading them.
