  • 1.  [Asset] Cannot associate software resource with software product

    Hello everyone,

    I'm have SMP running Asset Management Solution and Inventory Solution only.

    I'm working with Software Licenses. One of the steps require me to associate a software detected (associate) with a software product.

    However, I'm not able to do that.

     

    And this is the view of a software resource on a AMS only system:

    I'm not seeing the option for software product in any detected product!

    Admin guide says I should use the Software View, but there's no software view in this scenario/installation.

     

    Or should I configure it somewhere else?

    The Software View is at "Manage->Software" in the Silverlight Console (ECV - Enhanced Console View).

    In earlier SMP versions this was only installed with Deployment Solution, but you are able to install it on the command line manually.

    Hi Harold,

    Your problem is not about ECV (Enhanced Console View), because you shold have an option in this screen to associate this software resource to resource product.

    I think that must be missing some component or solution.

    Could you please confirm witch solutions and versions do you have installed on your SMP Server? You can use this report: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO10744

    Hi Harold,

    I verified and looks like you have all the components. You should have the following option to associate the software resource to software product:

    Could you please verity if you have the following ResourceAssociation? (Settings\Notification Server\Resource and Data Class Settings\Resource Associations\Software Management\Software Product Contains Software Component)

    After SP1, Symantec released some hot fixes (HF). I would recommend you to apply the available HFs using Symantec Installation Manager.

    If after the HF installation the problem persists, please reconfigure Software Management using AexConfig (change the path if Altiris is installed into a different location).

    The configuration process may take several minutes.

    After the configuration process is complete, restart the Altiris Object Host Service, Altiris Service and the World Wide Publishing Service.

    Hello Fabio,

    Thanks for the feedback.

    I've followed the steps above, but I'm still with the field missing. I restarted the server to be sure, and did not work.

    If all above steps are OK, I think it might be a corrupt installation on IIS, (the field is not visible on page). 

    Any idea?

    With the release of 7.1 SP1 the "Software Product" drop down was removed from the Properties tab of the software resource edit view when the Activity Center (ECV) is installed. 

    This behavior is working as designed.

    After the Activity Center (enhanced views) UI has been installed, the Software Management Framework UI changes so that the "Software Product" can be edited only via the Activity Center UI.

    The Activity Center (ECV) is installed with either the Asset Management Suite, IT Management Suite, Client Management Suite or Server Management Suite. The ECV will also be installed with the Deployment Solution.

    This behavior has been carred forward to all released versions after it was first introduced in 7.1 SP1.

    Hello guys! 

    Just a quick update. Symantec told me the following:

    - The Software Product field missing in picture above from previous posts is missing in newer versions of SMP. Both admin guide and online courses, are mistaken.

    - Only way to associate such software types is by using ECV. However, ECV is not installed in standalone solutions, except Software Management. Suites and Software Management, are the ones that get this ECV feature.

    - Support's solution was to install a full Suite or Software Management. The first one was completely unnececesary, and the second one seemed to be fine for me.

    Just a follow up.  With ECV some software is hidden from view and can't be associated.  Software which is deemed hidden from Add/Remove Programs will not be listed in ECV.
