  • 1.  Automated import peripheral devices

    Hello there,

We are using Altiris Notification Server 7.1 and would like to know if there is any way to automated scan for peripheral devices (such as USB drive, keyboard, mouse, monitor) and import them into the inventory?

    Thank you so much.

Once you have ran a full inventory with all the advanced ticks enabled for inventory types you should get the information you are asking for.

To do this you need to go to your hardware inventory policy and then press the advanced button.
In the Data Classes section you need to go to Hardware and tick all the boxes you need. i personally run all of them for my hardware inventory. Shown below is a pick of what you need to select:

Keyboards are shown as are mice (pointing device) and monitors.

Thank you so much for your help!

I can now browse the devices connected to each computer.

Morover, is there a way to view the data classes section in the other menu?

Like create a new data classes view into the Manage->Assets

I tried creating a new view in there but I cannot find the data classes view.

Thank you again for your support.

you can create custom dataclasses using custom inventories.

Below i've linked some samples and the howto documents. the samples are really useful with examples of scanning with WMI and getting device details.

    Hope this helps

    Hello there again,

Thank you for your help on this quesiton. However, I want to know more about the inventory data collecting.

Is there any way I can grab the Hardware inventory into Altiris Workflow?

Thank you so much for your help.

I don't have much experience with workflow, i keep meaning to play with it but haven't had a chance. I would recommend opening up a new post in the workflow forum and see what they come up with.
    Sorry.
