  • 1.  Backup of End user's Good & bad sender list

    Posted Jun 09, 2010 06:03 AM

    Hello.

We have procured new SBG appliance for redundancy & we have manually configured the new appliance as per existing SBG configuration. We are having end user Quarantine in our environment & users are managing their own good & bad sender. We want to take the back up of existing good & bad sender list of the end user which have manage their own & need import the same into the new appliance.

We have imported the good & bad sender list from Appliance but we are not able to get the list of entries which users have added their own. Kindly look into this & revert back with the resolution at the earliest.

    Regards,

I don't think there is a way to do this, and you'd need an on-going procedure for this.  What is your BCC and Scanner configuration.  It sound like you might have only 2  BCC/Scanner  combos.

You should set this second server up as a scanner, not another control center. You are trying to duplicate things that are not necessary. Your users will have to check both servers for quarantined messages and that will waste time and cause confusion.

Agree.  You add scanners for redunancy in mail operations.  Since you can be without a Control Center for days without impacting the scanners, you have plenty of time to re-create your CC.  Make sure you have CC backups that meet your recovery design.  You may only need "Backup only Configuration and Incidents" which is very small.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for your reply...

We have already tried taking the backup of existing server & import in the new server in our test lab & it is woking & we are able to see the good bad sender list.

We want to know any alternate way of exporting those entries.

You are going at this wrong.  You should have two "LIVE" control centers.  You should have  CC + Scanner + Scanner, or CC-Scanner + Scanner.  Backup the CC and >IF AND WHEN< you loose the CC, use the backups to re-create.

SBG is not designed to have two replicated Control Centers.  You are solving the reliability problem.   echoing what TJ Davis said, If you build a CC-Scanner + CC-Scanner setup your users will need to check both CC's for spam settings, quarantine, etc.  Not good.

You have two availability issues - mail transfer (the scanner function) and configuration/quarantine (the CC function).  The most cirtical to solve is the scanner function, as you need continuious availability of the scanners.  SBG can live for DAYS without a Control Center.  So I recommend:

two scanners, load balanced via MX,
one CC - backup daily.  Use the FTP option if you want the backups off the box.
