  • 1.  Barcode Solution - How to Sync Monitors and Docking Stations?

    Posted Jan 13, 2012 01:35 PM

When I initially setup a snychronization profiles computers seem fairly straight forward to add as a Resources.  I can target group and it will sync successfully but what I don't see is how Monitors and Docking Stations are added as a target group?

Also if I manually add the resource as an Additional Resource within the profile and then I scan a asset which is inventory (e.g. docking station) it shows no information when scanned?

Computers seem to have no problems.

    Thanks,

    Rick

If you already have a Filter or Organizational Group for Monitors then use that.

If you do not have a Filter for Monitors, create a new Filter as follows:

    1. In the Symantec Management Console, on the Manage menu, click Filters.
    2. In the left pane, right-click Filters folder, and click New > Filter.
    3. In the right pane, rename the filter and in the Filter Definition drop-down list, click Query Mode: Query Builder.
    4. On the Query tab, create join to the vRM_Monitor table (values on the screen below).
    5. Click Save changes, and then click Update membership.

After you create the filter, go to the Synchronization Profile page and under Resources, on the toolbar, click Apply to > Resources. In the Select resources dialog box, make the selections (values on the screen below), and then click OK.

For the Docking Stations you should also create a new filter and then you can add it to the profile.

This worked great for creating the filters.  Our initial issue was that much of our resources did not have a location already specified so getting resources like monitors and docking stations using filters would have really helped.  I ended up using connector to import a location to all monitors and docking stations, then I added that location to the Synchronization Profile to pull in monitors and docking stations.

Thanks for the lesson in filters.
