    i want to know if there is "best practices" that i should follow when using SEPM 14.0.1 with SQL Server 2016 ?

    Nothing specific to SQL but this does apply from Symantec:

    I mean using a 2016 SQL server as an external DataBase for my SEPM 14.0.1 (sorry if i wasnt clear enough)

    Nothing specific to it, no. Should be supported to use. The installer does the necessary when installing SEPM.
