Hi.. is it possible to convert bios to uefi on Symantec encrypted device without decrypting it? I did not find any documentation or article for this.

No, this is not a supported action I'm afraid.

For an already encrypted machine, I'd suggest the fastest way forward would be:

    1. Backup all data off the machine
    2. Change boot options of the machine to UEFI
    3. Boot to Windows media and install afresh
    4. Install SEE and encrypt
    5. Restore data

Doing so this way skips the decryption process, speeding things up (plus you get a fresh build out of it).

To be fair, I don't believe there's even an official process from MS for going from BOIS to UEFI on a BitLocker Encrypted machine that doesn't also involve reinstalling Windows, so it's expected that SEE must follow a similar path.

Hi thanks for the reply but this can be done with MS bitlocker by disabling the bitlocker and re-enabling again once conversion is completed. It is also possible for McAfee encrypted devices. But i did not find any way to do so for symantec.

In that case, I'd recommend you raise this as an IDEA, so that it is escalated to Symantec's Product Management Team for SEE.  If other vendors are doing it, then there's both a precedent and a popular use-case, which always help the cause.

As I mentioned though, I'm not aware of a supported method of accomplishing this at the moment.

I just saw this old thread

What happen if we change from legacy BIOS to UEFI on a laptop with PGP encrypted drive?

Is there any public KB that stated it's not supported?
