  • 1.  Broken replication servers - Endpoint v11

    Posted Jan 19, 2010 10:29 PM
My replication servers are broken and I need to get one of them running again.
    - The one that was the "Master" server  has a corrupted database.
    - The "secondary" has not been replicating to the "master" for about a week due to an ungraceful ip changeover.

    I'd like to:
    1) break the 2 servers apart
    2) keep the "master" offline until the db can be fixed (or rebuilt)
    3) make the "secondary" into my "master" for now

Can someone help direct me on how to do this?
Or am I going about this in the wrong way?

    Thanks!

First of all, take a backup of a healthy database (from secondary) before you do anything... :) ..

And with an embedded database, master SEPM plays an important role, once replicated and removed, you will not be able to redo the whole process again.. (unfortunately) ... But luckily, there is an option which says "Add existing replication partner" ... Which would help us...

If you think the master server is fine except for the broken db, you can perhaps take a backup of db from secondary and restore it here..

Anyway, if you still want to carry out what yu like :

    1. Break the 2 servers apart :
     * Delete the replication partners from admin->servers

    2. Make changes to MSL (if you haven't done before) to redirect the clients to secondary( if that's not been done yet).

    3. Work on master SEPM .. (recreate or fix) and then add existing replication partner.

    Cheers,
    Visu.

In master server remove SEPM (including database) reinstall it
    Follow this procedure for it
Best Practices for Disaster Recovery with Symantec Endpoint Protection

Note:The first SEPM is like the "Master" server in the replication setup, and if it is uninstalled, the second SEPM has no ability to configure another replication partner.

After this add the second SEPM as replication parter. For this do as follows
Launch the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager console.
Click the Admin tab. Under "View Servers", select a site.
Under "Tasks", click Add Replication Partner. The Add Replication Partner wizard appears.
Click Next on the "Welcome panel", and then enter the <IP Address> or <Host name> of the server that you wish to add as a replication partner.
Enter the <port number> and the administrator's user name and password for the remote server on which you installed the SEPM.
Note: The default setting for the remote server port is 8443.

Click Next to invoke the "Schedule Replication" dialog box
Disable "Autoreplicate" to set up a custom schedule for replication:
Select the hourly, daily, or weekly Replication Frequency.
Select the specific day during which you want replication to occur in the Day of Week list to set up a weekly schedule.
Click Next when the replication schedule is configured as desired.
Click Yes or No depending on whether or not you want to replicate logs.
Note: The default setting is No.

Click Next and then click Finish. The replication partner site is added under Replication Partners on the Admin page.
