When I attempt to run the client side prep tool, I get
Failed: Unable to get install path. Please check if SEP was installed successfully.
I am not sure what the issue is.
Here is the error message
SEP is installed already?
Yes.
SEP is going to torture me even between jobs. I am going to need "professional intervention" in my old age to cope with SEP disorder. :-)
May be this version isn't supported for this tool...
I was thinking the same, but we need to do an image thingie
Same thing here. The ClientSideClonePrep tool work fine for 12.1.4, but does not work on 12.1.5. Currently on the phone with Symantec Technical support about this. Will report back what they say.
Thank you, can't wait to hear this one. :-)
The support tech replicated the problem in his environment, so confirmed the tool doesn't work with this version. He said he would submit it to the engineering team to see if they can update the tool. In the meantime, we followed the manual instructions in http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO54706. As a step #5, we clicked on "Start" and ran "SMC -stop" to stop the Symantec service as the clientsidecloneprep.exe tool also leaves SEP in a stopped state.
From here, you can clone the system. Hope this is helpful to someone.
That was my suspicion :(
I feel like I am always patient zero when SEP releases new upgrades, I catch the bug every time :-D
But just think of all the sacrifice you make for the betterment of the community. It's much appreciated :)
What's host integrity failed?
SEP 12.1.5 now has the host integrity policy (used to be in SNAC but that went away)
So it failed host integrity, you'd have to look at the policy to see what the check is...
Got it!!!
Glad to help!!! :-D
They said they have a tool in the 'NO Support" Folder and that they will not support it. This is nonsense. We need to do this, otherwise SEPM will see one machine instead of 700
tool name?
SEPprep.exe and
SEPprep64.exe
SEPPrep has nothing to do with cloning.....
Here is where it needed to be changed
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\SMC\SYLINK\SyLink]

Almost two months later and no updated ClientSideClonePrepTool.exe
??
Not yet
Thats pretty pathetic.
Using the tool was easy.
Now I have to disable tamper protection, update policy, delete file and keys.
Nuts... I hate symantec. It can't possibly take two months to update something so simple.
Sorry? There is a workaround but that's it for now.
I concur with bjohn that this is pretty pathetic. I work for a large and widely dispersed education organization with 90000 computers. We create and deploy numerous images at different sites and changing our imaging procedures due to this is not pratical. We are on hold with deploying RU5 on a wide scale until an updated Cloneprep is available. Please expedite this Symantec.
You can do the clone prep manually. When the updated tool gets released they will update this article.
Updated on the 19th finally!
Looks like it is working now. I installed and tried it out. So far no issues, unless someone already discovered. Article is updated on 19th Nov. Thanks guys for the post!
Works now.
The download saves the tool without an .exe extension in IE 11 - rename to .exe
Firefox is OK.
Is there a 64-bit version of the clone prep tool? I tested on Symantec Endpoint v 12.1 (RU5), works fine on the 32-bit. Most of the workstations going out now, though, are 64 bit. The link within the article that allows downloading the tool retrieves the 32-bit.
