  • 1.  Can over deployment cause update issues?

    Posted Feb 15, 2013 10:56 AM

Say I 500 licenses, and I am over deployed by 15.

Is there a chance that the over deployment is preventing updates from being downloaded and installed to the clients/GUP?

    Thank you

    Hello,

Incase if you are running the SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition, then there would be no virus definitions update issues.

For 12.1 Enterprise Edition, over deployed clients work normally. However you would keep receiving an alert notification for the same.

For 12.1 SBE, over deployed clients cannot download definitions. Plus there is a Grace count.

In both situations, the clients appear in the console.

    Check this Article: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/sep-121-and-license-concept

In SEP 12.1 there are two types of enforcement.

    Types of enforcement

When the license goes out of compliance the Symantec Endpoint Protection product goes into enforcement mode. There are two types of enforcement

    1)  Hard Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Small Business Edition (SBE)

    • Content update downloads stop for both server and clients. In Small Business Edition it's 1:1 mapping with CAT server.
    • UI changes and log notifications are started.

    2)  Soft Enforcement: SEP 12.1 Enterprise Edition (EE)

    •  Content update downloads continue from all the sources.
    •  UI changes and log notifications are started.

Nope, they will still update as normal.

We are slightly over deployed but will be getting up to date as soon as possible. Some machines have not been updating properly, some are GUP's and some are clients. There are no internet connection issues.

Being overdeployed won't cause machines to not update in enterprise edition.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager is showing over deployment of clients

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH168121

Why are over deployed clients notifications sent to all administrators by my Symantec Endpoint Protection manager 12.1

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH195738

    and check this Thread: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/sepm-over-deployed

    Hope that helps!!
