  • 1.  Can you use PGP Desktop via Citrix without installing on the server?

    Hello All,

I have a question regarding using PGP Desktop in a Citrix environment. We have many 100's of Citrix servers and need to allow only a few Users access to a couple of encrypted folders. Would it be possible for the Users to access the encrypted folders without having PGP Desktop installed on the Citrix servers?

I'm aware that PGP Groups and Active Directory groups can be setup for access - if PGP Desktop was installed on the local PC would this be sufficient for encryption and decryption to take place or is it an absolute must for PGP Desktop to be installed on the Citrix server?

    Many Thanks

    Richard

PGP Desktop / Encryption Desktop, needs to be installed at the place where the data is accessed / where a program runs that accesses the data. So if you are accessing the encrypted data from your local station, you should have it installed there. If you are accessing a NetShare/FileShare folder (which basically means that the files in that folder are encrypted) from for instance Word that is running on your Citrix farm, you need to have PGP Desktop installed on Citrix to provide the seemless integration.

    Hi Richard,

It depends on how you want to give access to the data. If the folders are accessible at file system level for the local PCs, then it is enough to install the PGP/SED client locally.

Please note that the file system permissions should be granted only to machines with the encryption client installed, otherwise it would be visible as ciphertext and corruption will occur if there is any modifications made to the files. References:
