  • 1.  Cannot Install SEP Client on workgroup computer

    Hello -

I am working with SEPM 12.1 and cannot get the client installed on a Windows Server 2008 machine that is NOT currently on the domain. I am able to connect to the machine through the "Add Client" and can successfully start the installation but it fails every time. Is SEP able to install to workgrouped machines or do they need to belong to the domain? I can't think of a reason why they should but maybe I am overlooking something. Please advise. Thank you!

It should be able to install? Any error message? Are you using local admin creds to authenticate?

    Steps for 12.1 are here:

    Hi,

Does it fail when you do manual install?

you can install it on workgroup , try to copy the package manually and run the setup.exe

it might be cause of pending reboot

    update the root certifcate

Please provide more details about where does it fail exactly? Does it fail when you push the package from SEPM or does it fail after the package is successfully pushed. If it fails during the push itself, check the following article:

Title: Error: "No Network Provider accepted the given the network path"

    URL: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102904

If it fails after the package is pushed, there is a need to review Installation log to find out what failed.

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-troubleshoot-failed-install-sep-or-sepm

Check the Install log on the Machine

For SEP Check the SEP_inst.log. %TEMP% or in %Windir%\temp locations.

In the log search for Return Value 3.Once we get the Return Value 3, Look at the lines above Value 3 it will help us to locate the reason for the failure.

    PASTE them here.
