    Hi,

We have symantec messaging gateway filtering email for 2 system. 1 is lotus notes users which is default destination routing; been the case since installation. Recently we have added an exchange system, whereby any mail received is routed to the Exchange server. I have specified all the concerned user's email address on the Protocols> SMTP> Domains. When new emails arrive, the emails are routed without any problem.

The problem I am having is that whenever an email is held in Quarantine for exchange users, when I release them I have error message 'Cannot release the message. It has either been released already or a delivery error occurred. Please check Brightmail Log for details.'

I checked Brightmail Log and having this error '[QuarantineManager] ERROR - error.quarantine.unable.release.delivery javax.mail.SendFailedException: Invalid Addresses;   nested exception is: com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPAddressFailedException: 550 john@xxx.com... No such user'

What can I do to solve the issue. Please help. Thanks

The quarantine release is a completely different setting. Under Administration -> Control Center -? SMTP there are two options. Deliver to one specific IP/Hostname, or perform an MX lookup ion the recipient's domain.

You'll have to either set up an SMTP relay which knows whose emails go where or set up an internal DNS record for the two different domains so the SMG knows which servers handles mail for which domain.

Thanks. Both lotus notes server and exchange server have the same domain that is xxx.com. If I set to 'Use existing non-local relay settings' which DNS does messaging gateway use? Can you please help. Thanks. If I have it released again to symantec messaging gateway (specify IP of messaging gateway), will it then use the setting Protocols> SMTP> Domains to determine on which server to send the email?

Is there a way for me to whitelist these recipients, so that any mail sent to them is not held? This way once the mails hits messaging gateway it will be delivered to the exchange server.

    Hi,

    - which DNS does messaging gateway use: The one you configuered - administration, hosts, config, dns/time wich should be external ones.

    - have it released again to symantec messaging gateway ... - not a good idea - it will be caught again and moved to quarantine, same if you use an external dns (will get the mx for your domain and getting caught again)

    - will it then use the settin... yes, as every inbound mail for your domain, but the delivery only takes place if its not moved to quarantine.

    - whitelist these recipients ... its possible to use the routing feature of directory integration or route every mail to one of the mailsystems and if not local route them to the other system or use target addresses or use aliases - but its depending on the directory possibilirties etc

Hope it gives you an idea of all the possibilities, and i'm sure there are a lot more ;-)

    Regards
