Ghost Solution Suite

I'm trying to create an image using the ghost solution suite 1.0 ghostcast server.

The model machine is a new Lenovo with a 80 GB SATA drive. I've made a ghost boot CD since the system had no floppy drive.

The system boots and finds the ghostcast server and starts the image creation but never gets more than 125 MB into it before it hangs.

I've installed an IDE drive in the system and can make an image with no problem from that.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happeneing?

    Hi William,
This problem might occur if there is interrupt chaining on your machine. That is, multiple hardware devices sharing the same interrupt (IRQ) number.
You should be able to check/modify the assigned interrupts through your machine's BIOS.
Check whether your network card and your SATA drive controller are assigned the same interrupt number. If they are, try moving them around so they are assigned different IRQ numbers. Retry the imaging operation to see if the new configuration works. You might need to try several times to get a working configuration.
    Hope that helps.

    Cheers

    Peter

    Peter,

Thanks for you advice. The only IRQs I can change are for the parallel and serial ports, which I've disabled.

This didn't help. The load seems to start out slow and continue to get slower until the system becomes unresponsive. I can't CTL-C or CTL-ALT-DEL to get out of it.

I've also tried using both the onboard NIC and a PCI NIC and disabled the second IDE channel, all to no avail.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

OK, I seem to have figured this out. The GSS Manual mentions a switch that can be used to turn off ide control , -noide. I tried this and it did NOT work, but using a "/" instead of a "-" did work. So my solution os to invoke ghost with the command ghost /noide.

Still remains to be seen if I can push this image back onto the other PCs in our group.

That seems very odd that using '/' instead of '-' works; I'd expect both to work.

I have -noidea why -noide doesn't work. I've just tested this with the latest release of ghost.exe and ghost32.exe and using both '/' and '-' works. Usually Ghost will give you an error if you pass in a flag it doesn't recognise.

Either way, good luck pushing your image back.
