Certificate Question for CEM Implementation

  • 1.  Certificate Question for CEM Implementation

We upgraded to SMP 7.6 HF7 in December and are now going to work on implementing CEM for our remote users so that they can communicate with our SMP environment on a regular basis even when they aren't VPN'ed into our network.

We have will have 2 Gateway servers out in the DMZ to handle connections to our SMP server, then we have 2 Site servers that will be used as package servers for the CEM connected users, all 3 are on our internal network.  We have to use a 3rd party certificate for our SSL connection to the Internet.  So the question is around the certificate that we need to request from the certificate authority.  Do we just need a certificate for our SMP server or do we need one for each of the systems that the CEM endpoints will be talking to, since they will be getting packages from either of the 2 site servers and not the SMP server itself.

I have read over the white papers and watch some of the videos related, but none of them really go into the certificate issue for implementing the product, many of them cover using the self signed certificate that the SMP can generate and not the working of using a 3rd party certificate, such as form Verisign or Entrust as the certificate authority.

    Thanks
