  • 1.  Changing Column Mappings not working with User AD Import

I am importing Users via the Active Directory import and changing the column mapping for the department column to a custom data source which in our environment is a department code as opposed to the name.  However, it is not importing it with the user, it is instead pulling in the default department name attribute from the AD.  I think it may be because we are pulling from the custom attribute and not a default one.  Has anyone encountered this?   Is there a workaround?

    We are running NS7 SP4 HF1.

that it wasn't a good idea, and most likely wouldn't be supported if you changed the default column mappings. I think if you created a custom data source with the department information, you should be able to update or overwrite the incorrect data for users.

Thanks for the info.  One follow up:

Are you saying it is "bad" to use any non default mappings, or just ones with custom attributes?

We are just trying to have ENG instead of English, for example.  I'm not sure it is worth the effort to set up a custom data source.

sometime after the American Civil War, I was told that even clicking on the default column mappings was like lighting a match in a gunpowder warehouse (we had lots of them back then). I believe it's more stable and not such a bad thing now, but the best practice, as I approach it, is to use custom datasources\import rules, or CMDB rules to change data that needs to be added or changed in the database.

In your case, if you want to change an abbreviation to a full word, CMDB rules sound like a perfect fit.

OK, I'm working with CMDB rules for the first time now.  I think i need to use an expression to replace the Department names with the department codes, so I will gave that a go.

My rule needs to replace the column Department with our custom column value muohioeduDepartmentCode.  Any idea on how I would approach this?
