  • 1.  Client will not PXE boot

I have recently upgraded from DS 6.5 to DS 6.9 but I am having trouble configuring my PXE boot. I am trying to make use RapiDeploy to create an image of a workstation. I boot to my PXE server and the boot appears to go fine until I get a message that says "client record updated." After that, it says "Booting to Production..." and it then reboots the workstation. Can anyone assist me here as to what I am missing?

Do you have a job or task assigned to that computer?  When utilizing PXE, if the agent doesn't see any work for it to do, it will reboot to the production partition.  If you do have a job assigned to it...is it failing?  If it is, you may need to modify the job to use the appropriate automation client (i.e. Linux (Auto) or DOS (Auto) or WinPe...etc.).

    Hope this helps.

Do you have the "Boot to production to complete configuration task" box checked under the Configuration section of the Distribute Disk Image task properties?

I didn't have a task assigned to the computer as it was not added to DC yet. I don't know if it is the "right" way, but I ended up adding a couple lines of code to the autoexec.bat file in the PXE configuration to make it automatically run RapiDeploy after booting.

If you aren't already using it, you might consider using Initial Deployment.  Basically, if the console has never seen the machine before, it assigns what ever jobs you have in the Initial Deployment.  This might do what you are looking for.
