    Hey,

Can you provide more information about how do you install the client, e.g. install client from the CD or install the client remotely from the Console?  What is the machine's OS? And how many disks and partitions are there?  Where does the OS sit (which disk and partition)?

    Thanks,
    Jenny

Hi Jenny. Thanks for the reply.

All clients have WinXP SP2 using just the one disk and all installed on C:\.

What i have done so far: placed a test machine next to the server and gave the test machine a static ip address, reason being the server subnet does not allow DHCP. ( so the test machine and server are both on the same subnet). Next i remotely installed the client and the test machine showed up on the console, so far so good. I then tried to send an image to the workstation but it did not take the image, it just did a reboot. So i made a boot cd and tried to initiate a session. This was successful. I then realised that the prvious boot disk was made for working with DHCP. So by using a boot disc i was able to clone the test machine. I can also clone any machine on any subnet using a boot disc relevent to the workstation. I then tried dumping an image ( using a static ip address within the setup) from the test machine to the Ghost server and successfully cloned the test machine without the use of a Ghost boot cd. This proves that the Ghost server works as long as the machine is on the same subnet.

This must be a network issue. I have enabled IGMP to all edge switches and configured both core switches as per instructions by the network company who installed all our switches. Our core switches are Allied Telesyn AT9924T and edge switches are AT 8324 and AT 8848  all L3 switches. Any help would be great.

    Hey,

Does the initial problem that client doesn't show in the console has been resolved?  Or do you still have problem when machines are in different subnets only?  If so, can you provide more information about the each subnets network settings?

    Thanks,
    Jenny

Hi Jenny, thankyou so much for the reply, i am pulling my hair out over this. I am still having trouble with clients that are on different subnets to the Ghost Server not showing up on the console. I have configurered both core switches as per instructions from the company who installed all our switches so i am confident they are configurered correctly. All other switches are the same make and model and are L3 switches which have IGMP Snooping on by default. What info exactly do you require??

When clients sit on different subnets, it uses either multicast or WINS protocol to talk to the console.  The network needs to be configured to support one of them.  Below are two GSS forum posts that might give you some ideas.

    Thanks,

Hi Jenny, i can see the icon in the system tray and when i open the debug console it reads:
10:31:34 10.10.4.205:1346 polling for bound server lion
10:33:34 10.10.4.205:1346 polling for bound server lion
10:35:34 10.10.4.205:1346 polling for bound server lion
10:37:34 10.10.4.205:1346 polling for bound server lion
10:39:34 10.10.4.205:1346 polling for bound server lion

Can you explain what this means?

    Hey,

It looks like your network doesn't support multicasting as the client tries to poll the console machine, but it doesn't get a response from the console.

When multicasting is not available, you can use WINS protocol.  Basically you need to use a WINS server for all subnets that use DHCP.  You can achieve this by supplied WINS server address in each DHCP server.  If a subnet doesn't have DHCP, you have to specific the WINS ip address in each static ip address.

    Hope this will hep.

    Regards,
    Jenny

What GSS version do you use, GSS 2.0 (build 1502) or GSS 2.01 (b1533)?  It is recommended to use GSS 2.01.  If you are using GSS 2.0 at the moment, please upgrade it to GSS 2.01 through the console menu Help -> LiveUpdate.

    Thanks,
    Jenny.

Dilbert, love the name by the way.

I've tried mulitcasting to different subnets for the past 7 yrs to no success, following all of the Symantec and Cisco requirements. Try Unicast, it works to multipty computers from the Console and straight from Ghostcast server. Do this daily, sometimes to up to 50 computers!

    Good luck and happy Ghosting.

You may need to check the network connection and computers in that classroom, since some of them are showing in the console and some are not.  Do all the ports from the same classroom connect to the same equipment (switch, router or etc)?  Do all the computers have the same make / model?

    Thanks,
    Jenny

Hi Jenny, yes all computers in the room are connected to the same switch and all have the same hardware and make of model.

I would suspect that is something to do with the network settings.  Can the console and client machines ping each other?

Hi Jenny, yes all clients can ping the server, last night i remotely installed the clients to 2 classrooms and all were successfully installed and the subnet has shown up under the network icon but those clients are not showing up on the console, although some machines on that subnet have shown up. I will try and restart the workstations today to see if they show up on the console.
