I am completely new to the Altiris software and have been asked what would be the best way to preserve this system while conducting a hardware refresh. What are the best ways to clone this solution in vmware to new hardware and preserve all functionality? I was told that on a normal day, this was not possible due to the licensing protection inherent in the software. I can't really accept that answer though and would like to confirm.

doing a hardware refresh is quite a big task you have there and there's a couple of ways you could go.

Do you stay with the OS and Altiris Version you have, and which one is it? Do you wanna P2V the Altiris System or is it already a Virtual Machine, because you said clone it in vmware?

Could you please clear things up, if you just want to change the HW Version in VMware or do a "real" HW refresh.
