  • 1.  Computer Shuts down during EndPoint Protection full scan

    Posted Apr 04, 2011 09:19 AM

    I have an Acer TravelMate 5520 running Windows XP with EndPoint Protection 11.0.780.1109 installed.

    When I run a full scan, the computer shuts down after scanning 80,000 files of about 200,000. I tried this multiple times with the same results.

    Any idea what is causing this..

    Thanks;

    Carl..   chynes@nf.sympatico.ca

    Hi,

    You are using the very first version of Endpoint. Since this version many bugs were fixed. I would suggest uninstall and install at least 11.0.6005.xxx.

    Please see this for more information about versions released so far:

    Try running some hardware monitoring tool when the scan runs.

    I have friends with AMD Turion x2 laptop that shutdown when running intensive tasks.
    It is possible your CPU overheats then the failsafe shut down your machine.

    As the others have said, upgrade your SEP clients to the latest build and see.

    But if during scan your core CPU temp goes > 170F , it is bound to happen.

    With version 11.0.780.1109 running on your computer. Expecting anything normal would be mistake.Remove it ASAP and install new version.

    Right, this was just what I was thinking. Maybe there is a BIOS setting that shuts off the PC to protect the CPU from meltdown.
