As per the KB Duplicate Hardware IDs result in only one client showing up in the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager for two systems the problem of hardware ID duplication is fixed in the RU5 version of SEP.(

    Solution

This problem is fixed in Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 RU5 (11.0.5002.333).)

But as per the KB Configuring Symantec Endpoint Protection client for deployment as part of a drive image the problem still exist and it is clearly saying about the workaround in RU5. I would like to get an answer for this from a symantec employ.

I am afraid that the KB TECH97626 is not very clear, but it refers to a different problem where due to hardware changes or MAC changes a client can change as well its own hardware key and causing issues with registration in the SEPM.

The KB TECH102815 is about deployment of SEP clients on a ghost image, where you need to pay attention to reset the hardware key before creating the images otherwise they will all have the same hardware key and register with the SEPM in the same way.

I hope this makes sense and answers your question.

In the technical point of view your answers may be correct. But these are reference documents for your customers. It should be very clear and should be able to understand by anybody who is even for a beginner .Keeping these docs up to date also an important thing. Article TECH97626 contains a lot of wrong information. As per that the problem with duplicate hardware ID is fixed in RU5.it is a partial truth. If I  am not wrong only problem fixed is in earlier version Hardware ID was getting creating by referring the MAC ID of the NIC card and if the NIC card changed SEPM will think that it is a different system and register as new client.

The funniest thing in Article TECH97626 is that it is saying problem fixed in RU5 and the solution provided in that will be applicable for RU5 or above. I am requesting the support to correct this mistake.
