Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition

We have Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (cloud); as labeled when I open the software via the Windows taskbar.

My Programs list / folder refers to it as Symantec.Cloud also in Windows Defender Security Center it's referred to as Symantec Endpoint Protection.cloud.

    My reason for needing some clarification is this;

I have a Windows 10pro 64bit machine that started blocked one of our business programs that had always worked (continues to work on other Win10 machines). The only way we could get it to run would be to turn "off" the SEP smart firewall. This seem odd for this particular Pc.

After some playing around trying to troubleshoot this issue I wound up in the Windows Defender Security Center where is says my firewall / AV is being managed by Symantec Endpoint Protection.Cloud, underneath that is has "Open Symantec Endpoint Protection.Cloud" in blue letters. When I clicked the blue lettering I was presented with a popup SEP.Cloud window where I could make further SEP settings. That is where I found a firewall setting 'blocking' my specific program we need to run. I changed it from "block" to "allow" saved my settings and everything is working.

I was not aware of these 'other' settings and thought I had found something new and another place I would have to check settings.

    My confusion is this:

This is the only machine that I have found so far that has this "other" capability / settings. Other Windows 10 machines shows the SEP controlling my firewall in Microsoft Defender Security Center but I can NOT open SEP.Cloud from there.

Question is this; does this single machine have an issue and it shouldn't be working like this OR are my other machines 'broken' and they should have that extra capability? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall to fix this AND which one(s) do I need to fix?

Also, do I have SEP.Cloud or SEP SBE? Their labelling is a bit confusing.

Am I in the correct forum, not sure which one I should be addressing my questions.

Hopefully I made some sense out of what I'm seeing.

To me it seems to be SBE, at least from what I remember when I used it briefly.

Another sign may be what is the URL you login to to manage the clients?

    SBE uses this URL:

    https://hostedendpoint.spn.com

    SEP.cloud uses this one:

    https://securitycloud.symantec.com

    https://hostedendpoint.spn.com is the URL.

I'm just also curious as to why this one machine has the Symantec Endpoint Protection .Cloud access window from within the Windows Defender Security Cener, where I can make more changes?

    It's SBE.

I can't really comment much on anything else other than you're definitely not the first bring up the confusing naming convention. Kinda crazy IMO. As to why Windows Security Center see's it as such, it's probably looking at some specific piece of code or file in SBE. There's also some ties into 'Norton' which even adds to the confusion.

This article may also shed some light on the additiponal settings you see:

    Brian,

Thank you very much for that link, those are exactlly the settings I was referring to. IF I hadn't stumbled upon those settings I'd still be trying to figure out why our CRM software wouldn't launch on this "one" Pc without turning off the 'smart firewall'.

Although, I didn't have to issue any commands from an elevated command prompt. I had access to it just by clicking on it.

It DOES help to explain things. Maybe if I issue that command on another Win10 machine I'll get access to that and fix another different problem two other Pc's have. The BIG issue NOT knowing about this is, it could be blocking access to files / programs and you don't know why. Those settings are kind of hidden in the background unless you are aware of this access.

    Again, Thank you VERY much.
