  • 1.  Convert vmdk to gho - Error Number: (40221) - Failed to open vmdk extent - invalid format or unsupported version.

    HI all,

    A couple of years ago, someone asked this very same question here (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/convert-vmdk-gho) but there was no solution posted. We still use Ghost Solution Suite 2.5.1 as I still think this is by far the best software I have used for cloning, yet is this simply a case where the lack of any further updates mean that the software is incapable of reading a newer VDMK virtual HDD?

    If possible, help would be appreciated.

    You can see most system info from the error log, but just in case:

    I suspect you are correct in your assumption that GSS does not support the latest VM formats.

    Look for recent postings by David Evans - he has taken over the mantle of GSS update management and may be able to give you an idea of whether this issue will be addressed in any forthcoming releases.

    Thanks EdT, very helpful as always.

    All I can say is WOW - I never though I would see another update for GSS after all the very nearly but not quite version 3 rumors years back. There still are a multitude of people that use this and it was a shame that Symantec killed the market leader at the time, but one wonders if it just too late to make the re-emergence.

    I wait with anticipation, but I shan't be holding my breath.
