    Hello,

So I know this has been asked before and I have been reading through all of the previous post regarding this topic, but I am hitting a wall. I am fairly new to Altiris so please bear with me while I ask something that is probably fairly simple.

We have some computers that use ImageNow software and there is a config file that I was asked to replace through Altiris. I need a way to go out and replace the config file in the following paths with an updated version.

For 32bit OS, the path is C:\Program Files\LW Supply Corporation\LW Form Overlay Viewer

For 64bit OS, the path is C:\Program Files (x86)\LW Supply Corporation\LW Form Overlay Viewer

My first attemp was to do a copy file task by way of: manage>jobs and tasks>new>task>copy file

I chose the "Upload from local system" source, then I entered the location of where the config file is located on the Altiris server and entered in the destination of where the file that needs to be replaced is located. I am unsure what I need to enter for the file Execute or if I need to do anything at all since when I try and add in a command line it then wants a user name and password. Either way when I try and do a quick run it fails.

Am I missing something trying it this way or do I need to go about it different way?

    Alternative:

Altiris Task - Copy a file from UNC to local

    Hi MarkABC,

I guess that you should specify login/password to access you UNC.
You do not need to specify command line if you don't want to execute file you have just copied (in case it can be executable).

Also you can click on the failed task instnace in the Task Status grid and try to find reason of the failure there.

Alternatively you can use my suggestion from https://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/altiris-task-copy-file-unc-local as mentioned by Alex in previouse comment.

    Regards,
    Dmitri

    Dmitri,

Your alternative solution worked perfect. I was able to replace the config file with a newer version. I had to create two seperate tasks though. One for 32bit and another for 64. That is the only downside, but besides that in my initial testing it works. I will just need to try and get a list of machines and create two seperate filters.

    Regards,

    Mark

Make sure 'Deployment Solution plug-in' is installed on targeted computers. Otherwise, you'll get the failure message when using this CopyFile Task.
