I have a .gho image that is spanned over 19 cds. The CDs were burned in 2004 and it is imperitive that I retrieve the data from this image. The image was created with Ghost 2003. When I try to use ghost explorer on them it build about 10% of the image and then it cant find the 18th CD. I believe the index is damaged and I have tried a host of things to repair the image. I am at a loss for what to do next.

Does Symantic offer a service to repair images?

You can try one of two things:

    1. Download latest GSS 2.5 from www.ghost.com and try using Ghost explorer from it. We have put some smarts to better cope with certain corruption level under certain conditions. This obviously doesnt help all the time but it does help some people.
    2. Use ghost to restore this image. If there is a bug in Ghost explorer that is causing this issue then unlike ghost explorer ghost doesnt care whether your image is corrupted and it just restores until it comes across something it cannot recover from. Then it just bails out. Hopefully it is just a bug in Ghost explorer that is stopping you from opening this image and you can recover your data by using ghost. If not - at least ghost will restore as much as it can and hopefully data in question will be restored.

    Cheers.

Thanks  for your reply I read through the articles and have tried many of the tricks that were suggested, running in dos with the -corrupt or -ignoreindex flags and had no luck. and since the original drive the image was made from has long since gone the way of The Beatles I have decided to try  GSS 2.5 to see if I cna have some better luck . Thanks for you help, I'll let you know if it works when the software arrives.

Thank you for replying to my post in such a quick fashion. I have decided to try the latest version of GSS 2.5, I am currently using Ghost 2003 and hopefully the newer software will be a little more forgiving. If that does not work I will try the restoration idea if Ghost explorer fails. Thanks again and I will keep you informed of how this issue progresses.
