Creating Boot CD with Symantec Ghost solution 2

I would like to create a boot cd to be able to boot form it and make an image of any hard drive partition on a cd/ dvd. Also be able to recover if I need to at a later date.

I installed the product and tried to create Boot CD from Ghost Wizard.
The wizard appears to  be similar to Ghost 2003. Is it the same product under new name?

I wanted to create a boot CD. Only option available  is to create a diskette. How many computers have diskette today?

How can I create a boot CD?

    Does this product support Vista?

Hope someone has answers to these. Thanks a lot in advance.

Around the 4th or 5th option down in the boot wizard is "CD/DVD Startup Boot Package with Ghost"

    Yes it supports Vista.

Using the search feature might yield faster answers in the future.  (Bottom of the page)

Yes, I did search and did NOT find answer...hence, I posted !!!!

Your solution does not answer my question... cd/dvd startup boot does NOT create boot cd/dvd. It still askes for a diskette. Please check...

    Thanks anyway

    Hi rAM ,

Use Ghost Boot Wizard to create ISO image with option to create botable CD/DVD.Then burn that ISO to CD or DVD.By using that CD/DVD you can boot your machine. To let Ghost.exe store image of your machine onto CD/DVD you have to have another CD/DVD drive (CD you used to boot your machine has to stay in CD drive all the time).

    Cheers.

    Hello Triple Ace

I created a Boot CD as you described. However, it does not work. Here is what happens when I try to boot from it

    Boot from ATAPI CD-Rom
    1. HD system Type -(19)

    Boot failure.

I recreated a DVD and tried, but the same results.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi rAM ,

Did you used PCDOS?Can you create CD/DVD but use MSDOS (you will need win95 or win98 bootable floppy ,or you can specify directory with MSDOS files).

    Cheers

    Hello

    I used PCDOS.

I have used Ghost 2003/4 - Ghost 8 etc, without any problem.

Do you think that if I use MSDOS it will work? Please let me know before I burn again.

    Hope to hear soon

    Thanks

From your first post, as far as I know Ghost 2003 uses a similar engine as Ghost 8.0 Corporate Edition that's why there are similarities with GSS 2.

The machines I use which do not boot with PCDOS (I received a similar message as you) do boot with MSDOS so chances are it will for you too.

    Cheers,
    Bruce

    Hello Bruce

Thank you for your info. Yes, you are right.. I used MSdos and it seem to work. I need to test further.

Now, I have another problem... that is it does NOT support mouse. Any suggestions to fix this?

I do not underatnd why Symantec does not fix some of the problem s with Ghost e.g.
    - forget driv "A" and "B". How many people have these?
    - Provide MSdos
    - mouse support
    - create boot cd directly

Ghost has not changes for the past 10-15 years.

It is very difficult to get support from Symantec.
Wish Peter Norton was still around.

Glad to hear you were able to boot from a CD.

Regarding the mouse, I found this thread which addresses the issue along with a couple of workarounds
    https://forums.symantec.com/syment/board/message?board.id=109&message.id=5499&query.id=26277#M5499

B drive I haven't seen for a long time but the A drive is widely available on most of the PCs I see.  Heck in my previous job I've seen people running their business on Windows NT machines.

I *think* the problem with providing MSDOS in the Ghost package has to do with licensing and Microsoft whereas PCDOS does not.

Just ran a quick search on Ghost (software) in wikipedia and it give a nice history of Ghost since 1997 if you're interested in changes and enhancements.

    Cheers,
    Bruce

    Hello Bruce

Thank you very much. I was able to add mouse driver. I found a very good explanation at

Now, there are 2 other problems, you might be able to help:

    1) How can I use my cordless mouse with Ghost boot ?
    2) I tried Ghost boot with mouse driver on vista machine. It locked at the very first scree. I could not use any key or mouse.

    Hope you have some ideas?

    Thank you very much.

I haven't dealt much with wireless mouses but if it's a PS2 I imagine it should work.

If it's USB, it may be a BIOS issue, you can check with a wired USB mouse to see if that works in Ghost.  Also what's the model of your mouse?

With the Vista issue, just to make sure, if you Ghost boot a Vista machine with a CD that does not contain the mouse.com, does that work?

    Cheers,
    Bruce

    3) my cordless mous is Logitech
    4) Yes, Vista boots with Ghost with CD without mouse. It is not easy to navigate. I remember ages ago making a mistake and losing my data.
