  • 1.  Creating Reports to Excel to feed Service Desk Tool

    Posted Jan 13, 2011 06:22 AM

    Hi

I'm a new user to the Altiris Console (version no: 6.0.6074 SP3 +R11) and i'm currently creating reports containing info on PC,s Laptops etc within our network (2,500 devices in total).

How can I automatically generate a report, say weekly which will automatically convert the report to Excel and feed it to a Service Management tool (proposed tool is VMWare 9, previously known as Infra).

    Any help appreciated!

    Regards,

    Gary

Altiris has a lot of connector, and you should be able to expose the data you want out via scheduled file exports, web-services or direct database connectivity.

However Excel file format is _not_ a good option to export data. It's arguably a good file format for presenting it ;), so it should be at the end of the data chain (close to the consumer, which is not likely to be your service desk tool, is it?).

You can also export the data to CSV, which can be read by Excel.

    Gary,

I've handled this by creating a live data connection to the NS database in an Excel spreadsheet and then linking it to a pivot table on a new tab. If you'd like some help with this, PM me.

    Hi Mike,

this solution sounds like something similar to what i'm trying to achieve. I'd be extremely interested in more help if possible?
