I'm using a SanDisk Cruzer USB drive with Symantec Removable Storage Access Utility. I saved a folder in the same folder as all of the utilities and now I cannot access my files:

But as you can see in the left picture, all of the files remain  encrypted. I realize I did this all wrong, but is there a way to recover my files?

    Thanks,

    Shannon

If you know the password it should be easy enough to do so. If you don't, then I would assume your data will remain encrypted and you won't be able to recover them. Check the document below though and see if it helps:

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.DOC9132.html

There might be 3rd party applications or companies that can try assist, but it is going to be very costly if they can even do so.

    Thanks!

    Hey Craig,

Thanks for responding. I do have the password. The screen on the left is after you put your password in and all the files in the top window are the ones I CAN access. But the screen grab on the right (and the bottom window on the left) is on the same level of the drive as the Symantec Utility and the SanDisk Vault. But no matter where I open the folder, all of the files have the .XML extension. I hadn't tried right-clicking, so I will do that tomorrow when I'm in the office. Thanks your the resource!

Okay, so I tried both ways to decrypt (moving it to my desktop and opening in the removable media). When I transfer to my computer and open it, I don't get any prompt for a password. It just opens a file like this:

When I tried to open in the removable media by right clicking, there's no option for decrypting:

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Shannon

In this case I would suggest logging a call with Symantec and seeing if they can help you out. Were there any issues when encrypting the USB HDD?

Okay, I will call. Thanks. I don't know how "encrypting the USB HDD" works. Do you mean when I added the files?

I'm assuming that as soon as the USB stick is connected, the application would encrypt the HDD. Were there any issues with this?

    How was it set up?

    Thanks!
