Dear Team,

We use DCS 6.5 MP1 (for IPS/IDS), In DCS admin guide i see the below for the user role.

• Authors:        Users with the Authors role can log on to the authoring environment and author policies.

If i assign only "authors' user role to some one will they have an access to DCS console ?  if No, what is the purpose of this role ?

In admin guide for ther roles, it clearly says user can login to management console, but for "Authors" it says Can login to the authoring environment.

I believe that "authoring environment" is leftover from older version of CSP product (5.x) where there was separate tool for authoring policies. In DCS 6.7, I tried creating user in DCS console and assigning the Authors role but I was not able to login to DCS console with that user. My guess is that it does not do anyting.

That is correct, it's legacy from the Authoring Tool when you had the ability to craft your own policies. It gave access to use that tool to connect to the Manager and edit or Author policies.
