Deploy Image: Stuck on "Configuring computer...." It won't install network drivers

  • 1.  Deploy Image: Stuck on "Configuring computer...." It won't install network drivers

    Posted Apr 11, 2017 09:54 AM

Can't seem to get ghost working. I can create an image, deploy that image, but it won't install any network drivers.

I loaded the drivers in the PXE boot disk manually. Tried using a combination of SysPrep and DeployAnywhere. The status detail always ends at Configuring computer (probably because there are no network drivers)

    Using PXE + WinPE 10 + Ghost 3.2.

Followed all the help videos to a T, as well as the community advice. Can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong here. Help?

Additional info: Win 7 Pro x64, use existing key, pushing the image through PXE on the domain. Everything works perfect up until it tries to install network drivers, then fails and hangs on "Configuring client..."

    Whatisghost,

You need to upload your drivers to the deployanywhere database if you already have not. This is located at Tools->Deploy Anywhere Database Management.

    Uploading drivers to pxe -

Drivers that you add to pxe are typically networking/storage drivers so that winpe can connect to the network and read your disks correctly. These do not get deployed to the client machines after imaging.

    Configuration Task

Your deployment task should look similar to the below, with the boot to production task unchecked and deploy anywhere database enabled.

I followed your instructions and the drivers STILL haven't installed. What's going on??? I installed the driver files by hand on the machine, so that rules out the drivers themselves being at fault. It's clearly an issue with the delivery.

I'm trying to maintain my composure but it's a bit ridiculous that I'm still having problems, even after following the proper documentation.

Also it's not automatically logging me in under admin//password after it completes the imaging process. How can I enable it to automatically log me in and press ctrl alt del? Thanks!

Do you have the dagent on your image that you are deploying?

Are you using a custom unattend.xml file on the deployment?

DAgent Service 6.9.3274 x64 is installed on the current image i'm trying to deploy. I'm not using a custom unattend.xml file.

Thanks for getting back to me Brycen.

The custom unattend.xml will allow you to customize certain aspects after the image.. ie.. default users, logged in, domain joined etc.. So I would definitely look into that if you want more functionality out of the box.

According to your screenshot above, deployanywhere completed successfully. The configuration task is triggered once the machine comes back up and the dagent connects back to the console.

Could you post a screen shot of your job and tasks?

Thanks for the info about the unattend.xml, that'll definitely come in handy.

Here's a screenshot of what I assuming you asked for. Hopefully this whole situation gets chalked up to me just overseeing something stupid. But I've been back and forth with Ghost for about a week now with no luck.

Also, this might be a dumb question... But can I deploy an image directly to a computer that has never been on the domain before with PXE boot? Or do all jobs require the DAgent to be installed first, or to be on the same domain beforehand. Thanks!

    Whatisghost,

The screenshot your provided looks like it completed successfully, I would require a screenshot of the task that did not complete and also a screenshot showing the configuration for the deploy image task (where you enter image location, sysprep settings etc..)

Yes you can deploy an image without the agent, you would need to use the initial deployment menu.

Sorry for the late reply. I took a screenshot of the configuration for the "deploy image task", and its submenus. I already took a screenshot of the job task but have re-uploaded it for convenience.

It seems to be an issue with the post-op procedure of installing the required network drivers, as the image itself works just fine. Hope we can resolve this soon as I need to start deploying images soon.

    whatisghost,

Your jobs look correct, I recommend you call in and open a case. This will allow the ghost technicians to work on this issue "officially" and allow us to advance the case if a resolution cannot be found.

I did find this kb if you can grab the log files

Thanks Brycen, I'll phone in on support today.

Also the kb you provided states it includes a link to replacement deployanywhere.exe files, but has none, or none that I could find.

The article is slightly dated, as such those upgraded files do not exist. The content however is spot on about logging.
