  • 1.  Deploying patches with Managed Software Delivery policy

I have a software program that I want to install with a MSD policy.  This software has an "update" that I would like to run after the program installs.  I have created two software resources, one for the program and one for the "update".  The "update" is actually just a batch file that will copy some additional files and import a registry key.  I have the "update" set to be an update to the software in relationships.  The problem is when I go to configure the MSD I can see that the "update" is available and I have it checked to install but it never does.  After creating the MSD I go to look at it under policies and there are no Service Pack and Update Tasks listed.  Any idea why it's not working?  I have done this with one other software product and it works flawlessly, the main difference is that the patch for the one working is an MSI file and the "patch" for this software is a batch file.  Any assistance would be great!  Thanks.

Create it as a separate software resource.  Don't worry about associating it as an Update.  Then simply add it as a second software resource.
