  • 1.  Device Classification for Cisco IP Phone

    Posted Jan 24, 2011 02:55 PM

Can anybody tell me what classification I need to enter in order to get some Cisco IP phones to show up in CMS 7?  I just now got around to installing and working with CMS 7.  I have to thoroughly test it before I even begin to think about upgrading our existing NS 6 server to CMS 7.

I am working with network discovery for different devices now.  I've successfully got CMS 7 to recognize a few HP printers and a Cisco switch.  It discovered the one IP phone I tried to discover, but it shows it as an unknown device.  I assume I can add an SNMP Device Classification for it, but I cannot find a list anywhere to tell me what number to user for these devices.  Has anybody run across this list...or can tell me what I need to use...in order to successfully show a Cisco IP Phone in the IP Phone list (All resources->Asset->Network Resource->IP Phone)?

I'm still struggling with finding a device ID to use for Cisco IP phones.  The only IP phone classification that comes with CMS 7 is for an Avaya IP phone.  I would like to add IP phones as managed devices (like I am now with our Cisco switches and HP printers), but I need to know what SNMP Device Classification to use for them.

with the SNMP Read Only community string for the phone and Resource Explorer for the discovered phone should, under Device SNMP info, should list the System Object ID.

For example, my Thompson Speedtouch 780WL ADSL Router is 1.3.6.1.4.1.2863.405.1

I have already discovered a phone by SNMP community.  I can't seem to find the information you are referring to in Resource Manager, though  I don't see any Device SNMP info setting.  It just shows me Add to Organizational Unit, Delete, Interfaces, Manage, etc.  Am I not looking in the right place?

I've searched the tree view of OID for the past two days.  I can't seem to find anything other than switches (for the most part) from Cisco.  I have had no luck in finding the OID for any IP phones.  I know they have to be out there somewhere.  I just haven't found them on the tree yet.  So far, I've got to 1.3.6.4.1.9.1 (the area for Cisco products), but that does not show any telephony devices.

I'm still searching for the answer to this problem.  If anybody has any information that might be of help, please feel free to post it.  This is one of those things I need to figure out before we can leave NS 6 and jump to CMS 7.

I guess I don't know where you are telling me to look.  I see Resource Manager on the discovered device, but it does not give me any SNMP OID information.  I do not see Resource Explorer you are directing me to.  Where is that located?  The device is listed under Network Resources.  I just need to find the SNMP OID so I can enter that information into the SNMP Device Classification table in CMS7 so it will know what this device is for future discoveries.
