    Hi Everyone

Did Symantec Web Gateway filters/aware TCP Protocol base softwares.Like Bloomberg/Western Union etc

Western Union uses port 3579,3580 on TCP Protocol.and Bloomberg uses 8194-8198.......

As these softwares are not URL/Web Based,i guess SWG will not aware about it and left it allow over the internet

and if SWG detects/filters/aware about it which thing i have to make it "allow" in SWG configuration policies

    Regards

    Hi Hussi,

Bloomberg is not one of the IM Clients supported by the Web Gateway Application Control module in the SWG.  You can find a list of the supported applications and protocols in this KB article:

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH97508&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1291734734324

Not sure if you checked into the IM Manager product or not already but I believe it may provide support for the Bloomberg IM client.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

This is not something the webgateway is for, you would be better off using SNMP and tools like MRTG or cacti with you routers/firewalls/switches to get raw numbers of up/download to and from the internet.

The SWG executive summary can show you total traffic processed in GB, #urls inspected etc. You can also use the other reports to see which sites are being hit most or what protocols the SWG sees the most of.

Apart from the Raw Traffic Processed statistic that can be seen as part of the Executive Summary report, there is currently no other bandwidth reporting stats available in the Web Gateway.  Bandwidth reporting and quotas has been one of the top suggestions by customers and it is something we are looking at implementing in the future.   It's probably worth pointing out these features will not make V5 which is due to be released in the second quarter of this year.

if i go with the idea of BenDC,how can i measure/report out download (from any site)traffic based on specific protocol.Which protocol is being used for downloading from any xyz site

Sorry if I was not clear before. But the SWG is not able to trac bandwith usage even based on protocol. You can see the number of hits per protocol in the client application report, you can see the top web sites used in the web desinations report.

There are currently other and freely available tools such as ntop, which can be installed on the network in a similar manner to the swg to monitor bandwith and protocol bandwith usage. Some switches and routers may have this as well.
