    Getting this alert:

    Symantec Brightmail Gateway Alert Notification for XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    ======================= ALERT NOTIFICATION ================================

    The Directory Data Service status is as follows:

    Host : Control Center and Scanner

    Date : Friday, Apr 09, 2010 10:50:20 AM EDT Status : A directory data integrity error has occurred. An email address is associated with more than one directory entry.

    Please check the directory data service logs for more information.

    ===========================================================================

    I checked the logs as directed.  The logs tell me that the email address is not unique and that the following entires shared the same adress pointing to an AD path.  Can anyone shed any light on this?  Problems potentially with our AD, Microsoft 2003.

    It means exactly what it says.  You have routiing or address resolution enabled and the referenced e-mail address exists in your LDAP data source(s) more than once.  Check you data sources for duplicate e-mail addresses.  In active directory a lookup on proxyaddresses=smtp:emailaddress@your.domain.com should help  (where emailaddress@your.domain.com is the e-mail address referenced in the logs.

    There are many AD LDAP query tools.  I happen to use ADFind from JoeWare

    adfind -f "(proxyaddresses=smtp:emaildaddress@your.domain.com)" dn

    will list all of the DNs contining the e-mail address.

    If you have mulitple directory sources setup, you will need to query each of them.

    Brightmail Control Center can actually show you which entries are conflicting:

    - Click Status / Logs
    - Select Directory Data Server from the Component drop-list
    - When errors are displayed, hover your mouse over a description of an error and you will see full description, including the names of the conflucting accounts.
