I am new to using GSS 3.1 console and confused on how to distribute images with different configurations.  In GSS 2.5, there were configuration templates that you could setup to use when distributing an image.  I can't find a similiar way to setup configurations in 3.1.  I would like to be able to set a configuration that for example might configure one station with a name like S-*, one with a name of T-*, etc. where it would consectively number them.  Some that were already on the domain, want to image with same name.  Not sure how to accomplish this with GSS 3.1.

Any help  to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

If you want to configure computers with a range, you need to add a configuration task. Then under Microsoft Networking click the Define Range Button. You then enter your Fixed Text and range start.

Fixed Test: Lab-130-S

Range Start: 100

Results would be Lab-130-S100, Lab-130-S101, Lab-130-S102, Lab-130-S103.....

If computers are already in the domain and named the way you want, you will be ready to go. The easiest way is to install the agent on each computer and the automation folder. When the computer agent reports to the GSS Server it will record the name and domain.

Create an image task to push out your new image. In the image task make sure you check "Automatically perform configuration task after completing this imaging task" and "Boot to production to complete configuration task" After the computer is reimagaed it will reboot and apply the name the computer had before and join it to the domain.
