  • 1.  DLP: Oracle upgrade from 11g to 12c - best practices and considerations

    Hi All,

I've been looking on this KB, is there any other factor or consideration we should check?

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH247450.html

What happen if customer doesn't realize that their Oracle CPU has more than 2 sockets - the upgrade will straight away fail?

    Thanks

Ideally they would know how many sockets they have in their server. It should be part of the information gathering process, and if they aren't licensed they need to update accordingly before running the upgrade, or make the change to the server running Oracle.

Other than that, always grab backups of the DB and any application-related information in order to allow for a rollback in case something goes wrong with the update.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Craig for chipping in

As for the upgrade process/steps, it seems like hard work

We need to re-create Oracle listener....reconnect the db...etc

Is this normal for any Oracle-connected environment or just for Symantec?

While I can't comment too much on Oracle upgrades, it might be due to the Oracle upgrade itself, and that's worth checking out on the Oracle support forums.
