    Hi all:

Out there have a lot of free desktop sharing softwares, such as WebEx, TeamViewer, and VNC, etc.  Some of them do not need to install any software, using a web browser or only execute the downloaded software client will serve the same purpose.  Does SEP have any function to control them (blocking or allowing them to run on demand).  I knew SEP can create a hash to compare and block the matching software (remote client) to run (hope I won't miss one, there are so many of them), but how about the one using the web browser?  Since I cannot stop the user to use the web browser; any other solution / idea on this.  Thanks in advance.

You can use the application and device control policy to control these types of software.

    See here:

    Hi,

It is possible to use SEP's Application and Device Control feature to block P2P executables from launching. To do so, you will need to create an Application and Device Control rule which blocks attempts to run the P2P executable

How to block Peer to Peer Applications (P2P) using Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH122597

An illustrated example of blocking P2P by application name rather than by hash is available in the Connect article What do P2P Applications do and How to block Peer to Peer Applications (P2P) using Symantec Endpoint Protection?  Also see Block Software By Fingerprint.

Thank you for you guys reply.  But my question is how to control / blocking user running WebEx like applications; can blocking P2P application works!?  I checked WebEx website looks like it requires ActiveX to run, can SEP's Application and Device Control control which Internet Explorer - ActiveX, Chrome - Extension or Firefox - Plug-in to run?  Thanks again.

Yes it can block these as well. There really isn't much that application control can't handle.

P2P blocking should take care, no need to block ActiveX, Chrome- Extension or Firefox.
