  • 1.  Drivers had problems installing to WinPE (Error 0x2)

    Posted Jan 28, 2009 12:28 PM

I've got about 30 PC's, PXE bootable, with some Intel 82566DM Gigabit NICs.

I am able to boot through PXE just fine, WinPE image loads but when polling the server for the MBR, it is trying to contact localhost (NIC drive issue, of course.).

I get the proper Vista drivers from Intels website.  Extract the ones I need.  Import into WinPE image using Ghost Boot Wizard.

Symantec balks at me:  Following drivers had problems installing to Windows PE:

    C:\Doc%\All Users\Application Data\Ghost\Template\Common\Windrivers\Intel 82566DM\e1e6032.INF

Of course I can't load the driver.

This whole Ghost Solution Suite has been a nightmare.

Please help o' wise Symantec moderator.  What is my next step to properly inject these drivers into the WinPE image?

    Thanks

    ***EDIT:

After looking at the default driver list within the WinPE image, it seems as if these drivers are already present (e1e6032)...  Am I missing something here?  Why is my NIC not receiving an IP after WinPE loads?

    Hi patterned,

did you apply LU for GSS 2.5?

There were few fixes went in as Liveupdate package.

if you applied latest LU, you should have a latest readme.txt file and ghost32.exe version as build 2165.

    also did you apply msxml6?

since we are using the microsoft tool to add drivers to wim file format, you need to have msxml6 installed.

if you applied LU and if you don't have msxml, ghost boot wizard will tell you to install it.

for the driver issue, with LU, we applied latest driver but original driver might not be the latest.

even though you downloaded the new driver, it looks like it is not added to winpe in your case.

    regards,

    James Lee

I did not apply LU.. ?

I JUST purchased Ghost 2.5 and received it not even 2 weeks ago.

Where can I download this LiveUpdate package?

    msxml6 has been applied.

    Console Help->Live update menu item.

    Cheers.

    Thanks Eugene.

Updated it all. Says I'm at 11.5.0.2113. (I'm not prompted for a reboot.. Is this required?)

    Refreshed WinPE images.

Added drivers.  Went fine. Thank you.

Only problem is, after WinPE boots, the client machine is STILL trying to poll 127.0.0.1

I ran an ipconfig at command prompt and get nothing.  Clearly I'm not getting an IP, so WinPE must be loading the wrong NIC drivers.. right?

What can I do to troubleshoot this, guys?

    Thanks

Try making a WinPE 512 VP/CD and see if that helps. 512 loads more drivers than normal WinPE.

You are missing NIC ddiver. Find out exact model of your driver then go to manufacture website and download Vista driver. Go to Ghost boot wizard, click on Winpe, click edit and click on any Winpe. Select add driver, point to your driver and go OK. Once imported you can then just check the checkbox to include it in Winpe and go OK. Wait until compile is finished and you can then burn any media (USB/CD etc) with this Winpe.

    Cheers.
