Deployment Solution

I saw guides released for this today but no release notes for this.  Are there any release notes or KB articles with new features anywhere?  I did not even realize an SP4 was in the cards.

and I still only see SP3. Usually with NS updates, the updates come out and then the release notes.

That is exciting to see that 6.9SP4 is going to be availble soon.  I am really confused however as to why DS 7.1 has launched, and now DS 6.9SP4 is being released.

I have been using Deployment Server 6.9 SP3 (not notification server), and have been trying to figure out how to upgrade to 7.1.  Is this still the same setup as what 6.9 SP3 was?  Do I now have to use Notification Server?

Ok, I just read the entire Admin Guide on 6.9SP4 and it appears to be identical to 6.9SP3 with no new features.  I am assuming SP4 is more for hotfix integration, but the installation appears to be identical.  The only thing I noticed that appeared a little different were the images of the Database Management.  You do not have to use Notification Server with it just as you did not have to for 6.9SP3 so no worries.

A lot of fixes though..


I would be interested in hearing wether it does have some more new features and that they might not be listed..

Check out mclemson's post above for the release notes. This contains install info as well.

Basically with DS, version 6.9 is the full feature version. With the versions above 7, the console is all web-based and they have slowly been adding additional functionality, which they have done a lot of. If you have a lot of resources, then you could try 7, but is is basically NS & DS integrated over the Symantec Platform. If I were you, I would still stick with DS 6.9 and try SP4 for now until you try the new version on a separate test system.

If nothing else, SP4 does have some security fixes. For example, http://www.nessus.org/plugins/index.php?view=single&id=45592 in this link - the solution is to upgrade to SP4.
