Deployment Solution

Trying to do a scripted OS install on DS 7.1.  I have added the OS files, the OS license, and created a Job with Partition Disk task, then I added the Install WIndows OS task and configured my source and product key.  I used the default configuration.  The Partition Disk job works, but the Install Windows OS tasks fails everytime.  When I check the job I see the Failed status, but when i go to details there is no error message or anything to work with.  I have also checked the Altiris Log viewer and there are no errors there either.  I followed the 7.1 Deployment Solution User guide, but i must be missing something.

I was able to import an image from my 6.9 sp3 box using the Resource Import tool and that works when I put it in a job.  I have also been able to run scripts from my WinPE environment to test the functionality and simple scripts work fine.

Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong?  Are there any good guides out there for DS 7.1?

as per your description you created a parttion disk and then you run SOI task.
Just a query, did you run Erase disk task bedfore executing Partition Disk task?

Another question, Is this macihne a bare metal (and booted using PXE) or you boot the machine to Automation env (from Production)?

Was the task initiated or it fails as soon as Partition disk is completed?

can you verify that you partition were created successfully, by accessing different partition especially system drive?

I tried it both ways with the Erase Disk Task and without, same results.

The machine is a vm booting from a boot iso created with BootWiz.exe from DS 7.1, we currently use PXE in our 6.9 DS and we will use PXE for 7.1, but we have not got there yet.

How can I tell if the task was initiated?  When I dig into the details of the job I see the Erase and Partition jobs were successfull, but all I get from the SOI job is FAIl.  It does say total run time for the SOI task is 10 seconds.

The partition does appear to be created, I booted from a Win7 ISO and accessed the partion information and I can see the partition.

are you setting jobs through Initial Deployment ?
By task initiated i mean that Windows installation window appears or not,  but it seems SOI package is not copying on client machine.

the reason might be package not created successfuly or gettign copied to client machine due to improper partition.
Also, if you are using site servers (task server and package server) , confirm that SOI package is copied to respected task server.

In my case OS script instalation run copy file on disk reboot to second  step ( instalation ) and this step dont run PXE write no OS to boot.
second step not run becouse computer not run from his HD to continue installation.
